Back to School Photo Tips!

Back to school is an exciting time of year! Marked by a mix of excitement, nervousness, and new beginnings this is a special time for children and their loved ones! BTS photos can serve as a meaningful tradition that allows families to create lasting memories, celebrate milestones, and reflect on the educational journey of their children. From front porch pics, school bus drop offs, to at the school itself, these photos serve as a visual record of growth and development to be cherished for years to come!

Whether you're a parent looking to document your child's journey or a student eager to create memories, here's how you can plan a fun and memorable back-to-school photoshoot!

Location:

Choose a location that reflects the essence of going back to school. Options could include your front porch with a "Welcome Back to School" sign, a schoolyard, a park, the school parking lot or even a classroom setting if available.

Props:

Gather some props to enhance the back-to-school theme. Here are some of my fave ideas!

  • Books: Stack some colorful textbooks or novels nearby.
  • Chalkboard: If you have access to a chalkboard, you can write a message or draw some school-related doodles.
  • Apples: Place a basket of shiny apples nearby for that classic school symbol.
  • School Supplies: Scatter pencils, crayons, rulers, and notebooks around.

Attire:

Make sure everyone's clothing is clean, neat, and appropriate for the season. Dress the students in their school uniform or favorite back-to-school outfit.

Poses:

Capture a variety of poses and expressions to convey different emotions associated with going back to school:

  • Excitement: Capture genuine smiles and laughter, showing the excitement of starting a new academic year.
  • Seriousness: Take some shots with a more serious expression, symbolizing the focus on learning.
  • Sibling Interactions: If there are siblings involved, capture candid moments of them interacting, helping each other, or teasing each other.
  • Solo Shots: Individual portraits of each student, highlighting their unique personalities.
  • Backpack Shots: Take close-up shots of the backpacks and school supplies.

Time of Day:

Consider the lighting conditions for your photoshoot. Early morning or late afternoon often provides soft, flattering light. Avoid harsh midday sun if possible.

Backdrop:

Pay attention to the background of your shots. Ensure it complements the back-to-school theme. For example, a schoolyard with playground equipment or a chalkboard wall at home can make excellent backdrops.

Incorporate Personal Touches:

Don't forget to include personal touches like favorite books, school bags, or any items that are meaningful to the subjects. These elements can add depth and personality to the photos.

Capture Candid Moments: While posed shots are great, capturing candid moments can often convey the most genuine emotions. Be patient and let the subjects relax into the photoshoot.

Remember that the goal of a back-to-school photoshoot is to capture the essence of a new beginning, so have fun, be creative, and cherish the memories you create

**Most importantly, have fun and go with the flow!
